Weed is not addictive unlike the TA.  People just think it is probably because they mix it with tobacco which is addictive owing to the nicotine content.  Joining an army is a very extreme way of giving up a non addictive substance. You might as well go the whole hog and join the French Foreign Legion.

Oh dear Peter, Does the army know you were using illegal substances?
On a serious note, why is that your way is the only way to stop!! get a grip. joining a part time army is not a realistic treatment. just because you think its a macho way of doing it, dont expect others too.

Im glad youve given up your 'habit'. its not good for you and it smells.

for those that are seeking help, please dont ever give up giving up. find local help on the web, or contact smoking sesassion places, they should have the basics to guide you in the right direction. Good Luck

Well Peter, I think you are a hero. Well done. You have turned over a new leaf with a vengence. I do wish more people would follow your lead.
I lived with someone for a while who smoked weed. He used to tell me that it's not addictive, but you know, he was a total nightmare when he couldn't get it, and at times became violent because he couldn't get weed, all the time he was like this, he blamed his tantrums on everyone else, me, his children, his past life, his lack of ability to hold down a job, spouting out that he took weed because it wasn't addictive, yeah right.
If he had followed your lead Peter, then he wouldn't have ended up being a smack-head. Well done, mate.

Yes its great that Peter has given it up, however it is extremely psychologicaly addictive, and yes if its smoked with tobacco, you are fighting 2 addictions.
the problem is that Peter in his wisdom thinks everyone else is lazy and dumb as theyve not given up....maybe they have been caught smoking weed and have a criminal record? and they therefore cant join the TA!!! im presuming you got away with it Peter?

Look at this Peter, you seem to have started a little debate,  Cool. Perhaps joining the TA should be initiated by the government for people with minor drug addictions or a system like it, where they can earn a little whilst they learn, where they have to pick up some discipline,  perhaps in the long run it would be cheaper then waiting till they get deeper into other drugs and have to go to jail or on some rehab program after the drug addiction  grows and becomes bigger then them.
Just letting them go because they are only caught with a small amount, and it's not worth the paper work obviously isn't exactly working is it.  Peter has categorically stated that joining the TA helped him focus on something else, and has worked in curing his addiction.
Maybe he's trying to incite other people to do the same by ridiculing them and saying they are lazy and dumb, perhaps he incited himself into taking action by thinking the same thing of himself before he joined the TA. If one person says, "yeah, I'll give that a go, and see if I can stop my addiction" then Peter will have made a difference to this world.
I actually think that if someone wants to join the TA in order to stop a drug addiction, they should be given priority to join, not stopped because of it.
