Meow is not Just a noise cats make

Recently labeled as  the "UK's new favourite drug" and a “legal high”, it is rapidly becoming a firm favourite amongst young people.

Often referred to as Meow or M-Cat, this drug can be sold and bought easily and legally, but its intended purpose is as a plant feed and not for human consumption.

Sellers have a legal responsibility to label this drug as a plant food and “NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” this makes it legal to sell and buy, only using it for legal consumption that makes it illegal. This labeling is a great legal dodge for the supplier and the manufacturer.

This legal drug can be bought cheaply online and is often 99.8% pure.

The user often gets a “buzz”, gains conversational skills and feelings of extra confidence, the user can also stay awake for long periods of time, some have reported staying awake for in excess of 50 hours.

There is not much data gathered for this drug, but having experienced discovering a close family member becoming addicted to this drug / plant feed, I can assure you it is a life destroyer and not just for the user.

Signs I noticed linked with this:-

A yellow tinge to the skin, then becoming gaunt looking with red baggy eyes, increased anger levels, short term memory loss, nose bleeds.

then with any drug, you get the lies and deceit that go along with it.

Use:-

The drug can be smoked, taken orally by rubbing on the gums and snorted, it is also reported that it can be taken by other methods, I assume by injection.

Smell

What alerted to me to this was the smell of a “Tom Cat” having sprayed, whilst we have a cat, it cannot get into the attic. The smell is pungent and sticks to everything.

MY Advice

If you know your child is knocking around with someone you know or feel to taking weed, watch them carefully, look in their rooms, but look for hidden panels, my son removed a panel from a wall, hid his drugs behind it and smoked it in the attic.

More often than not, you will find a bong, either bought or home made from plastic bottles, cans etc.

This legal high has killed, it will kill again, yet young people like my son get into it easily, despite years of effort, you could lose your child to something like this like I have recently. They don’t need to die for you to lose them.

As a parent, watch carefully and follow your gut instinct, do not turn a blind eye and do not believe your child if you suspect anything, like I said and have experienced, LIES and DECEIT are part of this.

I hope this raises the awareness just a little bit for someone.

MEOW – M-CAT info below

Mephedrone.

A stimulant drug with effects similar to MDMA producing euphoria, alertness, talkativeness and feelings of empathy. It can also cause anxiety and paranoid states and risk overstimulating the heart and nervous system to cause fits. Severe nosebleeds have been reported after snorting. Mephedrone has been linked to the death of a young woman in Sweden in 2008. A white or off-white powder usually sold on the internet as a legal high and described as a plant food or a research chemical not for human consumption. Sometimes mixed with other cathinones and caffeine.

Reports say that it can be compulsive to use and can create a state of psychological dependence.

Methylone Very similar to mephedrone.

MCAT A powerful psychoactive stimulant usually snorted but can be smoked and may be used by other routes.

The law

Currently it is illegal under medicines legislation to sell, supply or advertise these cathinone compounds for human consumption

Cathinone and some of its derivatives are already controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (e.g. Cathinone itself; Methcathinone), but most substituted cathinones are not controlled. These include: 4-Methylmethcathinone (Mephedrone, 4-MMC); 4-Methoxymethcathinone (Methadrone) and Methylone (the cathinone analogue of MDMA).

LEGAL HIGHS
What you need to knowTop

* You can't know exactly what you're taking if you take a 'legal high', so the effects can be very unpredictable.
* Just because they are legal to possess doesn't mean they are safe.
* Most of these substances are illegal to sell, supply, or advertise for human consumption, under medicines legislation, because of their effects on the body.
* Legal highs can contain a range of potentially dangerous chemicals, and their chemical makeup changes all the time - so you can never be 100% certain what you have bought, and what the effects might be.
* The chemicals in legal highs have, in most cases, never before been used as drugs, so have had no tests performed on them to show that they are safe. Nor do they have a long history of use, so that health problems would have become apparent.
* Legal highs can carry serious health risks.

The risksTop

* You increase the risk to yourself if you combine alcohol with any substance that causes a 'high', including the risk of death.
* Other risks of legal highs include reduced inhibitions, drowsiness, excited or paranoid states, coma, seizures, and death.
* Because legal highs are often new and, in many cases, their chemical make-up is constantly changing, the risks are unpredictable and are often still being assessed.
