Recently in my local area we have had a few cases of vandalism and such. Spray painting mostly, but also some fireworks put through letter boxes. This i find particularly dangerous and possibly even lethal! A group of lads has been caught and one of the oldest is being placed on community service. He will have to wear an orange bib and there have been requests from the local community as to what jobs he might be assigned. Have any of you got any suggestions i could put forward from my street?

Could I suggest that he works for the group he targeted, ie if the main group of people were senior citizens, he works for them.

I have found that this approach linked with restorative justice often turns the offender around.

A formal face to face meeting with the persons he hurt, let him understand how his actions had a negative affect on them as explained by the person, then doing something like gardening or cleaning the spray paint off walls.
