I've been talking to a reporter of a national newspaper and gave them a heap of statistics from Shropshire i've received.

the topic is -- giving girls the morning after pill at school.

I was quite shocked to find out that many schools give girls in school the morning after pill without parental consent / knowledge.

But a couple of other policy issues with regard this certainly raised my eyebrows and that of some national reporters.

* Some schools give the morning after pill to girls without parental consent or knowledge

*When issued they only record the girls school, the year they are in.

* They do not record the individuals name so have no idea how many times a child receives / requests one. So cannot identify a child who maybe at risk.

*having spoken to my school and asked what if a child has an allergic reaction, they said that would be the fault of the parent as they are to tell the school about any allergies the child has. Fine if you know they are getting the pll and know what it contains.

*A number of girls thought it gave them protection against an STD and HIV.

Fortunately for us, we are very open and our children talk to us about everything, if not both of us at least one of us.

I know a number of parents who are up in arms about this, especially as Telford has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in europe.

What do you think about girls being given this tablet?

Ive known about the pill situation for a long time there was a programme on itv at the beginning of last year about a school where they had a high teen pregnancy so they introduced it. Personnally I think it is very wrong but then again alot of teens that get it can not talk to their parents as they simply fly off the handel Im not going to be that parent.

School just need to consider things from the position of the family and prehaps offer more a mediation between families rather then take control.

This is the first I have heard this John and I am shocked if I am truthful.  The girl get's a morning after pill wihout her parents knowing!!!! This is ridiculous as I feel the parent should know what there children are getting up to.  Surely this is a parents right.........

I would like to know who makes up the rules and how they felt if THEIR daughters had been given the said pill :O They wouldn't like it.......

When I was at school, sex was the last thing on my mind to be honest ~ having a crafty cigarette was my risk factor lol

This is interesting because I have two different viewpoints on the pill for under age girls.

1)  IT is very good for downsizing teenage pregnancies if taken correctly

2) Are we not forcing our children into a system where it is to say yes it is alright to go break the law darling and have under-age sex but remember to take your pill ??

What has become of our nation?  What happend to playing with dollies until we were 15,16 we need to find something else to amuse our children and we can't keep them wrapped up in cotton wool forever as that would only make them rebell more.  Maybe more clubs need to be organized for the safety and sanity of our children or maybe they need to be sat down with a real baby for a week to see what it is really like under adult supervision of course.

If I knew how much hard work being responsible for children was going to be back when I was 19 I would have waited a few more years before deciding to start a family so how is it that 13,14 and 15 yr olds are becoming parents they are far too young.

Something needs to be done I just hope my daughters and son don't become a statistic :O

They do the electronic babys in canada for 2 weeks as sex education for teens its funny to watch them cope a few of our senior youth group members have them at the moment and brought them to youth as they couldnt get a baby sister was a crazy evening for sure. The problem is parents not being as active with their kids form a young age they are stuck in front of a screen tv or game stations and thats their entertainment. I have all my kids in sports now and my eldest goes to an art club which she loves and faith builders. Its not the councils or club organisations to encourage young people of today but the parents at home that need to get more proactive. By giving them the pill you are saying its ok to have sex now because you wont get pregnant.

One of my daughters had one of those babies for four days or so, I must say she did an extremely good job of looking after it, but she slept most of the weekend away because the poor girl was absolutely shattered. It was a very good experience for her.

I agree that parents do need to be more active with their children and creating 1 on 1 time with them is absolutley vital. Fortunately for us, we never had these ps2 games when the children were really young and there were lots of activity groups going on as well, that was when we were living in the South West, Devon, they had lots of family orientated groups, a great investment.

My 3 daughters are on the pill because it helps with their periods, but fortunately we have an open door policy and they can talk to us about anything and they do - sometimes you can only listen a suggest things, they often need to find their own answers to problems - communication is key and not flipping out at the everything helps otherwise they just clam up otherwise.

I agree, parents do need to be proactive, no matter how old our children get, after all, they are still our children.

It does worry me, especially when some girls think it also protects them against a sexually transmitted disease or HIV, this is the teachers problem for not explaining it properly.

Fortunately, my girls are open enough to speak about these things with me and their mum, so we can at least give them the right info.

After age of 16 only, because females should'nt be having under age sex, it is the responsibility of the parent to keep a close eye on a developing child, as i do, i have a 17 year old, i always advise her+ my 10 year old is already showing signs early puberty, in my opinion, when a child under 18 falls pregnant+ makes their parents grandparents.... all the fault of the parents in 1st place, sorry if that 2 strong an opinion.

As a Mum of four I am in complete agreement with issuing girls with the morning after pill.
Preferable to a sixteen year old having a baby and being emotionally and financially incapable of caring for that baby.
Surely the morning after pill is preferable to a termination or bringing another child into a dysfunctional familly situation.
You only have to watch the Kyle show to realise that these girls are too immature to cope with motherhood after all most of them don`t even seem sure who the Father is hence all the DNA tests performed.
If the parents were doing their job properly most of these girls would not get pregnant so why the outrage when the schools are offering a solution .
Bringing a child up is the hardest and most fulfilling job you can do not to be undertaken because you couldn`t be bothered to use contraception
