Hi,
Im sorry to hear about your sister, it must be devastating for you to watch.
The thing is, does she want to stop? that may sound like an uncaring question but the fact is until she wants to, no amount of detox will help.
If she is ready, thats great :0) I understand the problems involved in getting one service to help. its the same all over im afraid, but it is in the process of changing. In Birmingham where i live the DAAT is the place to get all the info you need. If you look up the DAAT (Drug and Alcohol Action Team) in your area they should be able to advise you who to talk to. Im presuming you have tried your GP? they should have an alcohol worker at the practice, if not try and contact your local Mental Health Care team run by the NHS, they will need to assess her. Private Detox is ridiculously expensive, so unless you have loads of money, you will need to be referred by one of the above.
Please do remember that whoever you go to will assess your sister to see if she really is ready to stop, they will know if she is doing it for the right reasons, so please dont think they will enforce treatment on her because you want it.
Alcohol is a dangerous drug, well done for recognising it as an illness which it is, trust me i know. but it can be beaten, albeit not easily. it takes a long time to become addicted to the stuff, so it will take some time to get off it again, its physically and mentaly addictive. but as i say it can be done, ive been dry 21mths now. Good luck to you and your sister, please tell her there is a life beyond the addiction, and with your help im sure she will make it :0)
