Does the show, or has the show, ever hired actors?

The second half of todays show, with the love triangle involving two best friends and the young chap, didn't ring true. Nothing in particular I could put my finger on, but it was almost farcical from start to finish. Then when the man came on, his completely over the top tantrum reeked of a RADA trainee.

Perhaps nerves or medication can explain it, however I'll take a lot of convincing otherwise.
