The following email is being used by a number of sources. I would advise that people report it to their email provider through a scam/spam link, but never reply to them as they can lead to unwanted contact and even id theft.

This email is to all the people that have been scammed in any part of
the world, the UNITED NATIONS have agreed to compensate them with the
sum of US$ 500,000.00
(Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars)This includes every
foriegn contractors that may have not received their contract sum,
and people that have had an unfinished transaction or international
businesses that failed due to
Government problems etc.


Your name and email was in the list submitted by our Monitoring Team
of Economic and Financial Crime Commission observers and this is why
we are contacting you, this have been agreed upon and have been
signed.

Good idea to post these things john, i get lots of this stuff and some people could be easily fooled into handing over bank ebay and paypal details.

It was only last week i was almost scammed out of my sons psp console by nigerians. I would never post without checking paypal to check the payment is recieved, but the emails supposedly from ebay and paypal were pretty realistic.

They took over some poor sods ebay account, bought the psp then sent fake paypal payment and ebay emails. It looked so real.. The thing that gave it away was the address to Nigeria, i stated won`t post outside of uk so then alarm bells rang and checked paypal for the payment, .which of course wasn`t there.

They even have the cheek to ask for a tracking number.
The next time they do that i will post some undesirable object and they will get a tracking number lol..

same here my niece wanted to get a new puppy they advertised in the friday ad of all places and they said free to a good home then they emailed a few times and said they wanted them to send some money to them in nigeria yeah asif lol they will try anything

There are also job scams going on. they set up an email (which is usually one of these free emails you can set up) and use the details from a genuine business. They ask for various info that could be used for ID theft and even ask for copies of passports, bank statements etc.

I recently received one of these job offers, realised it was a clear scam and alerted the company accordingly.

Unfortunately, there are some well known email providers who have been alerted to these email addresses but refuse to close the accounts eventhough they are proven to be used for criminal gain.

Do you know john they really don`t help do they, some of the fake paypal emails that say "your account is suspended login here to rectify it sort of thing" I`ve traced to a folder on some normal websites, of which the webmasters don`t know they`ve been , i`ve contacted the companys that host the domains and never get a reply, so what else can you do..

i`ve recently been getting offers of vet equipment donated to me for free, not sure how this scam works maybe who ever falls for it has to pay for shipping. "Not sure what i could do with vet equipment anyway lol"

It went on for several weeks and quite an interesting read, fortunately his curiosity never led to his bank account being emptied by some scam artist

There is a phishing report web site. I believe there are over 1 million reported phishing attempts and certainly feel that number is just a drop in the ocean.

They never stop and so many use almost the same formatt. When the email says un-disclosed recipients you know it has gone out to quite a few emails and is in the hope that someone will respond. I am informed that if people do respond, their email address is likely to be targetted by more, another example below,

Its so badly written that it can only be a scam. I just urge people to be even more cautious especially as the current financial climate is likely to bring more and more of these rogues out of the woodwork and more peole could fall for scams because times are so difficult for so many.

Remember the saying,

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is

so either leave it alone completely or really do your homework first as there will be the occassional honest person.

There is an email going around that is headed "A message from a friend" apparently it has a virue inside. I have received one of a similar heading, from an unknown email address so i just deleted it.

I`ve had a couple of new viruses latley, did a google search and this prog was recommended to remove them, and it does work well on some new trojans and malware. Recommend it malwarebytes
